OOOOOOOLD!

Brooklyn Art Alternative will soon be taking submissions for a book of paintings completed on mobile devices. There are all kinds of free and paid apps for drawing/painting/collaging on mobile devices. Here is a list of of few... Droid: Zebra Paint | Blackberry: Make A Mess
iPhone: Brushes (Recommended) or Whiteboard | Nokia: Mobile Paint

Brushes for iPhone is by far the most versatile of the applications listed. Whiteboard being a close second, and Nokia Mobile Paint is probably the best non-iPhone app. The rest unfortunately are mere finger painting apps.

If you don't have one of these apps, GET ONE, tell your friends and colleagues to get one, and start making mobile paintings at work instead of just killing time on Facebook.

Hey, David Hockney is doing it. (and he's ooold)

Here is a list of opportunities for artists, lovingly compiled by the nice folks at NURTUREart:

MTA Arts for Transit
DEADLINE: FEB. 5, 2010

MTA Arts for Transit has issued a new call to artists to submit images of existing work in order to be considered for commissions at 9 subway stations located in Brooklyn. Information about the submission requirements and the projects can be found on the Arts for Transit website's Artist Opportunities section. The stations are on the West End line (D and M) in the Midwood and Bensonhurst areas. If commissioned, the artist's work is interpreted in the medium selected for the project by specialized fabricators. For most of the stations, the medium is laminated glass. Arts for Transit commissions permanent works of art throughout the MTA commuter rail and subway network.

http://www.apexart.org/unsolicited.htm

Soliciting unsolicited exhibition proposals

Continuing our annual Unsolicited Proposal Program, we will accept 600-word, idea-based proposals for evaluation by an international panel of apexartassociates (curators, artists, writers, philosophers). Submissions are reviewed independently, anonymously and without visual support material-they are evaluated solely on the strength of the idea. No mountain too high, no river too deep!

Previous curatorial experience is in no way required, and will not factor into the selection process.

The two proposals with the highest ratings will be presented at apexart in the 2010-11 season (September 2010 to July 2011).

Artists' Applications Now Being Accepted for PooL Art Fair

PooL is the premiere fair in the US dedicated to artists that do not have representation in galleries. PooL will be at the Gershwin Hotel located at East 27 street between 5th and Madison avenues. The fair will happen during the other international contemporary fairs (the armory show, pulse, scope and volta) and is open late night. Last year there was a huge crowd at the opening and good traffic over the days with collectors, curators, press and other art professionals wandering the halls. Sales, press and other opportunities came about for many artists.

The Gershwin Hotel has a long history and was the location of the first scope art fair. the rooms are a good size with not a lot of furniture or fancy design elements and the ceilings are a decent height.
